Halleluiah!!!
Summer is definitely here again. It’s indeed
a blessing to be alive and well. Dubols Home Care
would like to take this opportunity to thank you for
your continuous patronage and your endless referrals.
Henceforth, monthly newsletters would be used as a
medium to communicate with our clients.
Clients have called
into the office to discuss the duties and responsibilities
of a Nanny.
The primary responsibility
of a Nanny is Childcare. Listed below are a
few:
- Preparing meals
- Bathing
- Teacher or help with
homework
- Engaging children in
various activities
- Communicating with parents
Several parents
have commented that their Nannies responsibilities
must include housekeeping chores. We have compiled
a list of housekeeping chores that we feel are within
the realm of a Nanny’s responsibility.
- Cleaning the children’s
room (vacuuming and dusting)
- Cleaning the children’s
bathroom
- Laundry
- Children’s playroom
- Nanny’s room
- Cleaning the kitchen
after preparing the children’s meals
What we have discovered
in this line of business is that if the relationship
between the nanny and the family is cordial the nanny
will bend over backwards to provide additional services
outside of their job description such as:
- Family laundry
- Vacuuming
- Meal preparation for
the family
- Loading and unloading
the dishwasher
Below are helpful
tips that could create a lasting relationship between
the Nanny and the Client.
- Communicate, communicate
and communicate!
It is impossible for the employer to think that
the nanny can read his/her mind. Several professional
relationships fall apart because one party thinks
the other should “just know” what
to do. Everyone is different, and their job descriptions
are different, thus make sure both parties read
and sign the Childcare Contract.
- Set aside time for a
weekly chat.
Find out from your nanny how she is feeling. Ask
her if she has any questions or concerns that
she would like to discuss. In most cases a nanny
may like to know how to set limits for your children.
Some issues may surface that might not have been
discussed during the job interview. In addition,
always encourage your children to respect their
nanny.
- Encourage the Nanny!
Taking care of children is not an easy task. Always
let the nanny know what a great job she is doing.
Give her the freedom to think of outings for your
children. Show appreciation, i.e. perks bonuses,
time off, a rise… it’s a hard job!
- Talk to Us!
The agency is aware that you may have questions
about the norm in other homes regarding nanny
services. Do not hesitate to give us a call. After
all, you paid for it. Realize that your fee does
not pay for one nanny, but for the right nanny.
It may be that the bubbly person you spoke to
during the interview is not the same person living
in your home. A change may be necessary. That
is why we offer a replacement guarantee. After
a period of time and training, and the match does
not feel right, trust your instincts – and
talk to us!!
Privileges must
be earned over time, it must not be given instantly
to nannies. Parents are often burned when they give
nannies too much laxity during the first couple of
weeks of their appointment.
DHC has found
it necessary to provide clients with the agency’s
tax identification number. Families can use the agency’s
EIN number to claim childcare expenses at the end
of the year. The fee for this service is 10% of the
nanny’s annual salary.
Have a great
summer!
